Will you stand for General Synod?

Image of person standing for General SynodHave you considered standing for election to the General Synod for the next five-year term 2021-2026? Standing for the legislative body of the Church of England, is an opportunity to represent the concerns of your community and your diocese at a national level.

As an elected member of Synod, you will have a say in national legislation that affects all parts of the Church of England. Together with Westminster Parliament, it is the only body in the land which is entitled to make national law for England.

In addition to legislation, you can also raise issues and contribute to debates on a wide range of social and policy matters – of national and international significance.

The electorate is formed of Deanery Synod members, but that anyone can stand providing they meet the qualifications (see details in the guidance document below). Nominations opened on 30 July and will close at noon on 8 September 2021. The deadline for election addresses is noon on 15 September 2021.
