The parish of Teme Valley South held their annual Lambing Café Church service last weekend at a local farm.
Ordinand Robyn Rooney attended the service as part of her placement with the team, which was led by Reader Pete Thorpe alongside Vicar Julia Curtis. Robyn said:
“It was great to see around 30-40 people attending the service, including a number of children and although it was muddy, we were pleased it stayed dry!
"The Teme Valley South choir were accompanied by Curate Tobias Thornes on the keyboard and treated us all to a rendition of the Vicar of Dibley theme, with a solo from Revd Julia at the end!
They also ended the service with an acapella version of Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles and we had a chance to join in with a couple of hymns as well as with a few verses of “Jenny and Andrew had a farm” (sung to the tune of Old Macdonald).
"The service was started following a conversation between farmers Jenny and Andrew and Julia a few years ago. I was told that quite often there is a lamb born during the service, but unfortunately that didn’t happen this year. The service included a question-and-answer session with Jenny and Andrew as well as prayers and afterwards there was a quiz sheet for people to take part in.
"We enjoyed some lovely homemade cake and sheep shaped biscuits, and all had the chance to get to see the lambs up close, with the children helping to feed them.
"Although we didn’t see any live births this year, the Ewes were certainly joining in the service vocally!"
