On the morning of Thursday 21 August St Johns church in Halesowen hosted a special session of what has come to be known as 'Donut Club' to support local year 11s who were collecting their GSCE results.
The church invited the group they had engaged through post-exam chillout sessions back in May and June, some of whom St John’s church had continued to engage in the school summer holidays through launching the Start! course.
On the day St John’s Church posted to Facebook saying:
“What a privilege it's been this morning to open our doors and welcome over 30 young people collecting exam results. We've hugged, chatted, celebrated, commiserated and rejoiced together over donuts, cookies and hot chocolate.
Thank you to those who came and trusted us to share in their success, shock, elation, disappointment, fear and nervousness. You are such amazing young people who will shine brightly in this world.
We pray for a successful future and a blessed onward journey. Keep in touch and remember we are here for you x”
Commenting after the day, Claire Biggs from St John’s Church said:
“This very special session of ‘Donut Club’ on GCSE Results Day allowed us to engage with 34 young people passing through the churchyard with their results. Some of whom came in and sat and chatted about their future plans - giving us opportunity to pray over them. We are now looking at how we take these young people forward and support them in their college journeys and we have recruited some additional volunteers to assist with this.”
