St John’s Halesowen build on success of student ‘Donut club’

Start course member notebooksBack in May, St John’s church in Halesowen which is one of our Renewal projects, launched a post exam chill-out space for local year 11 students, nicknamed ‘Donut club’, which was really popular with attendance levels doubling every time. Building on this success St Johns are now offering the Start! course on Thursday mornings to the same group as part of a session called ‘Bibles and Brunch’.

Claire Biggs from St John’s said:

“We had four young people attend the first session and six attend the second session and we are expecting another to join next week who has been away on holiday. As well as year 11s there are a couple of year 9 pupils in the group who are starting GCSE Religious Studies in September and have a real curiosity for church. They were all so engaged at the sessions which is really encouraging.”

Claire also reported that one of their parents sent through this feedback:

“Just wanted to thank you and Rev Hazel, my daughter Rachel has come home telling me how much she enjoyed the session and is looking forward to next week.”

Claire added:

“It has been a pleasure engaging in some deep conversations and we look forward to the coming weeks.”
