The Diocese of Peru has appointed the Revd Victor Condori as their new suffragan Bishop Coadjutor.
Chair of our World Church Group and Peru partnership lead, Phil Bradford explains:
“Last month, I asked for prayers for the electoral synod which took place in Lima on 30/31 May, to choose a new suffragan Bishop Coadjutor for the Diocese of Peru. At that meeting, the Revd Victor Condori was elected, and the election was ratified by the Province of South America on 6 June. Victor is now officially Bishop-elect and will be consecrated in the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd in Lima on Saturday 30 August.
“Victor is currently the Rector of Cristo Redentor in Arequipa, as well as vicario (a cross between Area Dean and Archdeacon) of the southern region covering Arequipa, Cabanaconde and Juliaca. In addition to ministerial training, he spent three years in Santiago de Chile in the later 2010s, doing further theological education, and is well equipped to undertake this new role. Please pray for Victor, his wife Marivel and their family as they prepare for a new step in ministry, and for Bishop Jorge as he works alongside Victor in this next stage in the life of the Diocese of Peru.”
We do not have coadjutors in the Church of England, but they are found in the Roman Catholic Church and certain provinces of the Anglican Communion, most notably the Episcopal Church in the United States. The role of the Bishop Coadjutor is to assist the Diocesan Bishop in running the Diocese, and the coadjutor automatically succeeds to the role of Diocesan Bishop when that person retires or leaves office.
Many of our clergy will have met Victor as he attended our clergy conference in 2023.
