Diocesan three to run the London Marathon

Nick Gowers, Vicar of Holy Trinity, Old Hill, Sam Setchell, Director of Communications and Harriet Chimani, member of Inkberrow Church and Bishop's Council will all be running the London Marathon this year for different charities.

Nick will be taking on the 26.2 miles to raise money for Samaritan’s Purse, while Sam is running for the Children’s Society and Harriet is raising money for three different charities.

Nick GowersNick said: “Samaritan's Purse does a brilliant job providing hope and help in Jesus' name in all sorts of situations around the world. As a church, Holy Trinity Old Hill supports Samaritan's Purse in many ways including by filling shoe boxes, by being a collection point for Operation Christmas Child, and by helping in the OCC Oldbury Distribution Centre. Running 26.2 miles will be challenge enough, but it’s been made harder because my training was interrupted after I caught Covid in July! God-willing though, I will be there on the start line and hope to raise £2,022 for the charity, with the money raised split equally between four of their projects: Pakistan Emergency Relief, Women at Risk, The Greatest Journey and Livelihoods”

Sam running

Sam was originally meant to run the London Marathon in 2020 when it was cancelled due to Covid. She said: “It’s been a long journey, especially as I’m not a natural runner, but I’m looking forward to finally being on the start line and completing the challenge I started in 2019! The Children’s Society transforms the hopes and happiness of young people facing abuse, exploitation and neglect. They aim to deeply understanding the needs of young people, supporting them through their most serious life challenges, and campaigning tirelessly for the big social changes that will improve the lives of those who need hope most. They do amazing work.”

Harriet Chimani

Harriet had to defer her place from last year’s Marathon due to injury. She said: “I enjoy running and getting a place last year was a dream come true! Due to my injury issues, I have waited until the 11th hour to start fundraising, but have chosen three causes that are dear to my heart: Play Specialists at Worcester Acute Hospital who supported my then 2-year-old son in 2017 with toys and entertainment during a hospital stay while he recovered from a broken femur; Second, Campden Nurses who provide serious illness support services and who have supported families close to me with bereavement advice and finally, The Maureen Terera Foundation, a charity I founded in memory of my late mother. The charity supports disabled children in Zimbabwe and the money raised will be used to ship essential sanitary and health care products to selected deprived disabled communities in Zimbabwe."

Please do support Nick, Sam and Harriet.
