Justice. Peace. Imagination - an appeal from our friends in Germany

A painting of a blue butterfly in watercolours surrounded by paints, pens, brushes and other art materialsAre you creative and express yourself through fine art? Are you interested in exploring your own answers to questions about our world, justice, and peace? Why not create your own sketchbook and become part of a unique exhibition being curated by our friends in the EKM in Germany.

Three hundred people from Germany and around the world, who enjoy creative expression, are being invited to design their very own sketchbook (handmade, in high-quality art paper). In it, they will explore traces of justice and peace in their lives. They will create images of what becomes possible when imagination is given space and meaning.

Painting, drawing, sketching (wet and dry techniques), photography, writing, collages – anything that works and stays inside the sketchbook when opened is welcome!

Our partner diocese is asking people two questions:

  • Where do you encounter justice and peace in your daily life – or where do you not?
  • And what does it look like in your imagination – our world, one that is just and at peace?

The organisers are asking people who express themselves through art to fill a 28-page sketchbook about A5 in size. It will arrive completely blank in July and participants should return it four months later as a filled piece of art.

Do you want to be part of the project? Are you artistically creative and interested in designing your own sketchbook? Send those organising the project an email and briefly explain why your voice should not be missing from their Sketchbook Project!

Starting in March 2026, the exhibition will travel to locations in Central and Eastern Germany that are ready to open their doors for a special and personal exploration of peace and justice. There will be an online exhibition, too. Accompanying, creative and inspiring activities for all age groups will be offered—providing space to seek and find one’s own answers to the project's core questions.

Everyone who creates a sketchbook is warmly invited to become part of the exhibition as an artist. If you wish, you’ll have the opportunity to share your ideas and your creative process – for example by joining us online.
