Diocesan Mothers' Union Festival

Around 30 branches of the Mothers' Union from across Worcestershire and Dudley came together on Saturday to celebrate the work of the Mothers' Union at the annual diocesan festival at Worcester Cathedral.

The theme of the service was 'following in Mary Sumner's footprints' and was led by Bishop John with the girl choristers of the cathedral choir singing.

The service was the last festival for outgoing Diocesan President Liz Green, who has served in the role for the past six years. Mothers' Union members were joined by the Mayor of Worcester and also the MU's President for the Canterbury Province, Nikki Sweatman.

In his address, Bishop John said: "You don't have to look to far to see the great work of the Mothers' Union. It's inspirational. There are thousands of women following in the footsteps of founder Mary Sumner.  However we can only bee good disciples of Jesus and do good works for God if we are first good followers. Jesus calls us to receive God's love in the way a child receives the love of a parent and then go out and share that love - reaching out to others as Mary Sumner did."
