Bishop Martin to be welcomed to the Diocese

The new Bishop of Dudley, Martin Gorick will be welcomed to the Diocese this weekend with two special services in Dudley and Worcester.

The first service will take place in Top Church (St Thomas and St Luke) at the top of the High Street in Dudley at 4pm on Saturday 22 February. Here he will be welcomed to the Borough of Dudley as well as the Diocese by congregations and dignitaries from the area.

On Sunday 23 February at 4pm, Bishop Martin will then attend a special Evensong service in Worcester Cathedral where he will be installed as a Canon of the Cathedral as part of his role as the Bishop of Dudley.

These two services mark the official start of Bishop Martin’s ministry in the Diocese, where he will be work with Bishop John to service the churches and people of Worcestershire and Dudley.

Bishop Martin said: “I’m delighted to be joining Bishop John and the people of Dudley along with all across the Diocese of Worcester. As a Black Country bishop I look forward to the church playing its part in the regeneration of Britain’s heartland in the West Midlands, and to working in partnership with all people of good will.”

All are welcome to attend either service. So that we have an idea of numbers, please email leonie.andrews@cofe-worcester.org.uk if you would like to attend.

Bishop Martin was announced as the next Bishop of Dudley in November last year before being consecrated as a Bishop in Southwark Cathedral in January. He joins the Diocese from the Diocese of Oxford where he was Archdeacon of Oxford and Residentiary Canon of Christ Church.
