St Mary’s Church in Madresfield was the setting for a leap day wedding on 29 February.
The happy couple, Sophie and Steven Mason from Upton but originally hailing from Madresfield, had waited for this date and worked with the church to respect the holy season of Lent - flowers were kept to a minimum but those in place were very befitting.
They made do without the bells and organ but were thrilled when the vicar said that they should have the cake cutting in the church after the service.
The Revd Gary Crellin, Vicar of Guarlford and Madresfield with Newland and Area Dean of Malvern and Upton said:
“Sophie and Steven were incredibly gracious when we talked about their wedding and how it would fall in Lent. The church really wanted them to have a good day and celebrate in a church which may be more stripped back than normal. Having the cake cutting, a special candle lighting ceremony, bubbles rather than confetti, space for the family dogs and a visiting random cat all added to the really special occasion - made even better as the couple had an extra day to either plan or enjoy it in this Leap year!”
