Congratulations to St John the Baptist in Claines and St George's Church in Worcester who have both achieved their silver Eco Church award.
The Eco church award scheme is a change for churches of all denominations to show they care for creation as an integral part of loving their neighbours and following God faithfully. The award reflects the measures that have been taken to promote sustainability and minimise use of resources not only in church buildings but in the local community. Members of the church are encouraged to participate at home by managing energy use, using eco-friendly products and other initiatives such as car sharing. There are a number of criteria to meet including: Worship and teaching, management of buildings and land, community and global engagement and lifestyle.

“I am delighted that both churches have now received their silver awards. It is such a worthwhile endeavour and I like how the award scheme encourages you to consider every aspect of church life and buildings. We are already on the way to attaining gold with worship and teaching but we are going to have to work really hard to attain the gold overall. It's so crucial that we all look for ways to protect the environment and our beautiful planet, and as Christians I see stewardship of the planet just as important as serving and tithing. We are called to be careful stewards of creation."
