Three times per year, St Laurence Church holds a lunchtime social event for the community in Alvechurch. This takes place in The Ark, the award-winning building attached to the church, which is used by community groups and the church congregation on a daily basis.
On Thursday 8 August Gail Rodgers and her team held their Spring Lunch. Over 60 people attended paying a small charge for a two-course meal which included wine.
The lunches are put on by a group of volunteers from St Laurence Church with food prepared by a young person who lives in the village. Nineteen year old Oliver has NVQ qualifications Levels 1-3 from Birmingham College of Food and has also just completed his first year of Professional Chef FdA. Oliver has been cooking the Ark Lunches for two years now and loves sharing his food with the community.
The Revd Gail Rogers said:
“The Ark Lunches are a big part of our outreach and mission. Last year the profit we made from the lunches allowed us to offer a free Christmas Day Community Lunch where we welcomed over 60 people from Alvechurch and its surrounding areas. We are very excited to be able to offer a free lunch on Christmas Day again this year and hope to welcome even more people than we did last year.”
“Our Ark lunches are a wonderful social gathering, and we are proud that we can offer all that we receive from them back into the community.”
