A play for Remembrance in Areley Kings

A new play to commemorate the centenary of the end of WorldWar 1 will be performed in Areley Kings Church on Thursday 8 and Friday 9November. Lest we Forget has beenwritten by former Archers actor, Mary Arden-Davis and will tell the story ofhow Areley Kings planned and built their war memorial.

The replica war memorialDiana Gwillam is co-producing the play with Mary. She said:The money for our local war memorial was completely raised by people in thevillage. The memorial was masterminded by the Revd Vawdry and it was completedjust ahead of his retirement after having seen the parish through the war. We are planning to construct a replica of thememorial which will be assembled in church during the play.

The play raised 2,000 for the Royal BritishLegions Battle Back Centre in Lilleshall, which supports wounded, injured andsick service personnel and helps them to achieve their best possible recovery toeither return to service duty or to make a smooth transition to civilian life. This years play will also raise money for the centre.

Diana continued: All of the performers in Lest we Forgetwill be local people, aged from 10 to 90 its a true village production. TheRevd Mark Turner, our current vicar, will take the part of the Revd Vawdry.
