New Director of Music at the Cathedral

The chapter of WorcesterCathedral is delighted to announce the appointment of Samuel Hudson as organistand director of music at Worcester Cathedral.

Sam has been the director ofmusic at Blackburn Cathedral since 2011, where he is also the artistic directorof the Friends of Blackburn Cathedral Music, and he regularly works for the BBCas organist and director of the Daily Service.

The dean of Worcester, the VeryReverend Dr Peter Atkinson, said, Were enormously pleased that Sam hasaccepted our invitation to come to Worcester, and we know that hell make aninvaluable contribution to Worcesters distinguished musical tradition. The precentor, the Reverend Canon Dr Michael Brierley, said, Im hugelyexcited by Sams appointment, and am very much indeed looking forward toworking with him, and to welcoming him and Louise to Worcester.

The dean of Blackburn, the VeryReverend Peter Howell-Jones, said, While Im delighted by Sams appointment asorganist and director of music at Worcester Cathedral, Im deeply sorry to belosing him. He is a gifted musician and has contributed significantly tothe development of music here in Blackburn. Im absolutely sure thathell be a great blessing in his new role and bring freshness and creativity inan already well-established department.

Sam Hudson said, I am thrilledand honoured to have been chosen as Worcester Cathedrals next organist anddirector of music. It is a privilege to have an opportunity to come to acathedral, city and region so steeped in musical heritage, while also home toliving music-making of the highest standards. I very much look forward toworking with new colleagues in Worcester and to joining the cathedral communityin due course.
