New Diocesan Secretary appointed

Andy ToddThe Revd Andy Todd has been appointed as the new Diocesan Secretary for the Diocese of Worcester.

As Diocesan Secretary, Andy will act as the CEO of the Worcester Diocesan Board of Finance Ltd (WDBF) and will work closely with the Bishop of Worcester and the Chair of the WDBF to lead the mission and ministry of the Diocese in Worcestershire and Dudley as well as ensure its financial stability.

Andy will lead the WDBF staff team and will also play a key role in our diocesan vision to grow as Kingdom People, helping to implement our four diocesan priorities.

Andy is currently Vicar of St Stephen’s Church in Worcester and is also the current Chair of the Board of Finance. Before training for ordination, Andy was a Corporate Tax Adviser at Deloitte, with responsibility for building a team providing tax consultancy to a number of high-profile, household-name clients, and was previously Director of Tax for Aviva’s life insurance business.

Bishop John said: “I am really delighted that Andy has felt a vocation to this crucial role in the diocese. He is an extremely gifted person with a wealth of relevant experience, not just as Chair of the DBF but also in very responsible positions in the financial world prior to his ordination. He is well known and much respected as an incumbent and Associate DDO who sees this new role as a natural development in his call as a priest. I look forward greatly to working with him in it.”

Andy said: “Right at the heart of my vocation as a priest has been to walk alongside individuals, families and communities through the ‘liminal’ times of great change – the good and the bad, the challenging and the uplifting – and to seek God’s grace in those times. There is a clear parallel with the role of Diocesan Secretary, supporting our churches through times which are extremely challenging, but also full of new possibility. That’s what the four Diocesan Priorities are all about, and it’s a huge privilege to lead a WDBF team committed to supporting our churches as they worship God, make disciples, share hope and transform communities throughout this wonderful Diocese.”

Andy currently lives in Worcester with his wife and two teenage children. He plays guitar with more enthusiasm than skill in a band called Bongo Monkey’s Mid-Life Crisis, soon to be featured (possibly) at a venue near you. He will begin as Diocesan Secretary in September 2023 and will stand down as Chair of the DBF in order to take on this role.
