The Anglican Chaplain at HMP Long Lartin, the Revd Nick Scott, is looking for volunteers to work with him. Could you help?
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Matt. 25:37-40
HMP Long Lartin is a High Security Prison on the edge of the Diocese. Hundreds of men spend their days here, all of them in need of the love of God, but some more than others. After 24 years of ordained ministry, I find myself more blessed than ever to be given the opportunity to serve in this place.
I am seeking people to work with in this ministry, Christians who are willing and able to pray alongside some of those whose lives took a most terrible turn. Throughout my 14 months working here I have experiences great trust and respect from everyone at the prison, but there is no denying that some of the crimes committed by the prisoners are grievous.
We have a group called the “Sunday Friends”. COVID sadly reduced its numbers down to four, so we are seeking new friends for this. All that is required is to come along to our Sunday morning worship once a month and be with the prisoners in prayer and fellowship.
For those who have experience of leading worship, lay or ordained, you could be vital in aiding in the delivery of services. Whatever your experience, if you’re willing to support of lead occasionally you would be most welcome.
All people would need to go through a security check to enable access to the prison. Once here we are always well looked after by the excellent prison officers.
