The Parish Giving Scheme (PGS)is now used by more than half the dioceses of the Church of England to handlethe regular bank giving of church members. The scheme offers donors ahighly efficient, friendly service and ensures that their chosen church notonly promptly receives the whole of their donation but also the gift aid ontheir gift. This reduces the workload of church treasurers.
A unique feature of the systemallows donors to increase their giving each year in line with inflation.Churches are thereby assured of a regular, tax-efficient source of income, which has the capacity to increase with the cost of living and involves virtuallyno administration.
The aim is to support the Churchtoday and help secure its future for generations to come. Talking aboutthe scheme Bishop John said: Introducing the Parish Giving Scheme in theDiocese of Worcester gives us a great opportunity to consider not only how wegive financially but also why we give and how much we give.
The experience of others makesclear that, with the right encouragement, this could be the best opportunityfor a generation to review what it means to live as financially generousdisciples, an opportunity that has the potential transform our efforts tobecome Kingdom People and play our full part in Gods mission by putting thechurch on a more financially stable footing. I wholeheartedly commend theParish Giving Scheme to every parish and to every individual.
