On Wednesday 9 July, the Revd Sue Adeney from our diocese will join thousands of people from every corner of the UK in Westminster for a mass climate and nature lobby and deliver a powerful message to our MPs. Those present will tell MPs that this is a moment for leadership to protect what matters most — our health, our nature, our communities, our climate, and our future.
Sue Adeney, Associate Priest in Hanley Castle, Hanley Swan and Welland and our lead on Eco Church, will be attending the mass lobby and is encouraging others from across the Diocese to join her in being the voice from Worcestershire and Dudley.
“This will be the third such event that I’ve attended,” she said: “It’s both important and very inspiring to gather with other people and feel that we can be part of the voice trying to change things. We need to show that these are issues that many of us care about.”
The event is organised by a coalition of different charities who say that it is more than just a lobby. It’s also a moment to come together, connect with others and remind ourselves of the shared future we're united for. There is a full programme surrounding the meetings with MPs including powerful speaker sessions at a nearby venue and nature walks led by WWF-UK.
Organisers say: “Whether you join an interactive discussion, share stories over a cuppa, win a commitment from your MP or even just take a moment to soak it all in - this is a day to feel the power of community - and the hope that comes from showing up, together.”
Sue continues: “Joining an event like this is also great evidence for the Community and Global Engagement section of the Eco Church award. It is acknowledging that we are not just in this on our own, but people across the world are being deeply affected by climate change and we are prepared to take action to get others to listen to the issues.”
