Bishop John was joined by supporters, friends and Trustees of Holland House as he rededicated the retreat house's new chapel. The 50 year old chapel has been completely refurbished, thanks to an appeal launched last year on the 70th anniversary of Holland House.
Bishop John said: "Holland House is one of those really glorious places where it's possible to find God and be found by God, and then go out and find God everywhere. It is a precious and wonderful place which I hope many more people will be able to enjoy."
Invited to the rededication were many of those who had supported the appeal - charitable trusts, Wychavon Council, Severn Waste and many individual donors. The service was followed by a buffet lunch after which there was an open house event for other friends and neighbours to come in and enjoy the chapel, house and garden.
Chair of Trustees, Paul West, said: "Today is a great celebration and the culmination of two years' work to transform the chapel. We are delighted that Bishop John was able to join us - he's always such a supporter of Holland House and it's an opportunity to thank people who have been so generous. Without them the project would not have been possible."
Holland House's anniversary appeal remains open and contributions continue to be welcome towards the ongoing maintenance of the house. "There are always significant challenges with listed buildings," continued Paul. "There are improvements we'd like to make to the fabric of the main house so that it can remain a place of hospitality and welcome far into the future. We are always grateful for any donations and legacies."
Peter Perry is a former trustee who has helped oversee the refurbishment of the chapel and other areas of the house. He said: "I've always believed that the chapel is the most important part of Holland House. We were able to keep the best of the original features while enhancing it for the next 50 years and I'm glad that it's now back to being the most beautiful part of the building."
Trustee Anthony Glossop added: "Virtually everything in life needs renewal. After 50 years, the chapel needed a new vision and style that will last another couple of generations. The fundraising wasn't difficult, thanks to the Friends group and other generous donors. It was an easy sell because Holland House is so loved."
