Exhibition of paintings raises money for Peru

Published: 3rd May 2019

Local Black Country artist, Philip Adams is currently exhibiting a number of his paintings in the Dean's Chapel in Worcester Cathedral to raise money for schools in our partner diocese of Peru. The exhibition was opened by Bishop Graham on Wednesday evening.

Philip AdamsPhilip is a member of the Peru partnership group, which he joined after visiting the Diocese of Peru in 2010. This is his second exhibition in the Cathedral, having previously exhibited a number of his paintings from his trip to Peru. This exhibition also toured churches in our diocese and included paintings by Peruvianchildren which Philip encouraged them to create while he was there.

Of his latest exhibition, 'Sketchbook Travels', Philip said:

"2017 was an environmental disaster for Peru which especiallydamaged the Anglican Schools. I suggested another fundraising exhibition to tryto benefit the schools there. This time my exhibition is not just focused onPeru but is about my travels to other countries and my involvement withChristian mission in those places. There is also a small amount of work byPeruvian children on show alongside a selection of photographs of children intheir schools."

Visitors to Philip Adams exhibitionsAs in 2012, donations and sales from this exhibition will go to the Diocese of Peru, being split between Bishop John's Lent Appeal and to Philip's own appeal for Peruvian Schools.

Philip is a retired teacher of Art and Design and is a member of Holy Trinity Church, Old Hill in Dudley. Inrecent years he has travelled fairly widely and has triedto make the very best use of his sketchbook while abroad. Four of Philip's exhibitions in recent years have raised fundsfor charities. Alongside the two exhibitions at the Cathedral, Philip's paintings have also been shown in Bewdley Parish Church and in September 2015 an exhibition of his paintings of India held at St.Martins in the Bull Ring, Birmingham raised funds for Birmingham City Missionand Calcutta City Mission.

You can see Philip's paintings at Worcester Cathedral until 14 May.
