Shoeboxes full of toys and gifts have been donated by Christ Church Lye to help children facing difficult situations around the world.
Twenty-one physical boxes (and more “online” donations) were delivered to the Operation Christmas Child collection point run by our friends at Bethel Chapel in Lye.
The work was coordinated by David Verney, who, with his wife Catherine, was inspired by the work of Samaritan’s Purse, the organisation than runs Operation Christmas Child. David is partially sighted, which limits some of what he can do, but he ran with his vision and reminded the congregation at Christ Church every week to fill a box and donate it.
After months promoting the project, David and Glen Ruffle, Vicar at Christ Church, took the boxes, filled with toys, personal care items, school supplies, and fun gifts, for donation. They will then be taken abroad and distributed to children around the world.
Glen said:
“It’s wonderful to see David’s energy for this, and also the response from the followers of Jesus in Lye. They’ve collected a wonderful assortment of boxes and we pray that they will be a real blessing to children in many different nations.”
Operation Christmas Child is a project run by the organisation Samaritan’s Purse, and aims to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world. Samaritan’s Purse partners with local churches worldwide to share the Good News of Jesus and to make disciples.
