On Tuesday 9 October, Bewdley church member, Susan Price, receiveda British Empire Award Medal (BEM) at Worcester Guildhall, for her services tocharity and the community in Bewdley. The BEM is awarded to individuals whohave provided a hands-on service to the local community. This service couldbe a long-term charitable or voluntary activity, or innovative work of a shortduration that has made a significant difference.
Susan was nominated for this award for her work with the Children's Society. She has tirelesslyarranged various fundraising events for the charity over the last 50years and also set up the Bewdley Appeals Committee with her late husband.Over the years, her fundraising events have included annual house-to-housecollections, garden parties, and cake and marmalade sales.
Since 1970, Susan has also arranged local Christingleservices each year to raise awareness of the charitys mission and to fundraisefurther. Additionally, as a volunteer speaker and Diocesan Ambassador for TheChildrens Society, Susan explains to others how the charity positively impacts on thelives of children and young people, encouraging people to get involved.
Roseann Thompson, Relationship Manager at The ChildrensSociety, said: Susan is very much an unsung hero. Much of what she doesis carried out anonymously and she never seeks any praise or reward for it. She not only takes on fundraising ideas herself, butpassionately shares ideas with other volunteers in the hope they will beinspired to organise events/raise funds for their chosen charities. In all that Susan does, she is always looking for new ways in which she may be of service.
Funds raised thanks to Susans determination, passion andtime over the last 50 years, will have helped a great number of children andyoung people living in poverty and at risk of multiple disadvantages.
