Called to Action - public transport

Suggestions from the Diocesan Climate Crisis Task Group on making better use of public transport.

Measures have been introduced ensuring public transport services are ‘Good to Go’. Central government and local council funding have subsidised existing routes and proposed new routes.

In these difficult times it is easy to forget that:

• Using public transport rather than cars, limits damaging emissions, noise pollution, and the need for new roads.
• Public transport can be a lifeline for those in transport poverty (related to low income, ill health, limited mobility, rural and isolated communities).
• Worcestershire Parkway station provides connections cross country and to London. It has EV charging points, secure cycle storage and an X50 bus stop.

Actions:

Remember how much the environment benefitted during lockdown. Let’s build back better with public transport. See below for timetable and travel information links.

• Work with local groups to campaign to improve public transport.  (Eco Church ref: C&GE 4)
• Organise regular church activities so that people have the option to use public transport. A church walk could be planned using a scenic bus trip and a non-circular route.    (Eco Church ref: Lifestyle 3, C&GE 9)
• Research into vulnerability to fuel and transport poverty.
