Bishop John had an audience with HM The King last week when he offered his resignation as the Lord High Almoner. In recognition of his service in this role, Bishop John was invested with the Insignia of a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order by King Charles.
The Royal Victorian Order is an order of knighthood instituted by Queen Victoria in 1896 to reward personal services rendered the monarch. As it is a family order, the honour is given solely at the discretion of the British sovereign. Bishop John will now be able to use the title of ‘Sir’.
The medal presented to Bishop John was made in Bromsgrove!
Bishop John said: “It has been a great honour to serve as Lord High Almoner for 12 years and even more of an honour to have been invested as a Knight by His Majesty the King. I am full of gratitude.”
The new Lord High Almoner is the Bishop of Norwich and former Bishop of Dudley Graham Usher.
