Becky Elliot appointed as new Dean of Women’s Ministry

Published: 14th June 2023

The Revd Becky Elliot, Vicar of Becky Elliot with her dogHoly Trinity and St James in Malvern has been appointed as the new Dean of Women’s Ministry, a post she will hold alongside her parish role.

She takes over from the Revd Hazel Charlton who has held the post for the past five years.

As Dean of Women’s Ministry, Becky will represent and understand the needs of ordained women across the Diocese, becoming an official advocate for women priests both locally and nationally.

She said: “I was honoured when Bishop John asked me to take on this role. Women’s ministry has a really special place in the Church of England, but it is not always supported by everyone, and it remains important for there to be someone to champion their ministry and continue to encourage equality. Hazel has done an amazing job and I have big boots to fill, but I’m looking forward to getting to know my female colleagues better and providing a safe space where they can share their experiences and stories.”

Bishop John said: “I’m delighted that Becky has agreed to take on this role and I know that she will be a great support for the female clergy in our diocese. I would also like to thank Hazel for all she has done over the past five years to ensure that women’s ministry is well represented.”
