Afternoon tea helps tackle loneliness

Groups of older ladies sat around tables with tea and cakeSt Philip’s Church in Webheath, Redditch was filled with the sound of chatter, laughter, and the clink of teacups as it hosted a special afternoon tea on Sunday for around 25 guests.

The event brought together local volunteers and members of Re-engage, a charity dedicated to reducing loneliness among older people.

Re-engage works to connect people who might otherwise feel isolated, offering regular social gatherings and the chance to form new friendships. Sunday’s event offered just that—a warm, welcoming space with plenty of tea, cake, and conversation.People sitting around tables in a church hall eating cake

“It was a lovely occasion", said Sarah Jayne, Vicar at St Phillip. "There was so much joy and connection in the room. We’re really glad to have been able to host this, and we’re already looking forward to welcoming Re-engage and the ladies back - hopefully in September.”

Diocesan Small Churches Choir

11th November 2025

At the celebration service for small churches service held in the Cathedral last May, a number of singers expressed a wish to be able to sing together more often. Mark and Linda Blackwell from Fladbury (Nr Evesham) felt called to use their experience to try to set up a choir made up from singers from the small churches across the Diocese to sing at occasional services at Worcester and other cathedrals.
