On Thursday, 24 March it is exactly 70 days to the start of the Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday celebrations and many church communities are already planning to celebrate this milestone in our history.
In Kidderminster, Wyre Forest District Council has given permission for the railings around Brinton Park to be trimmed with patriotic red, white and blue flowers along with purple ones for royalty. Many Knit and Natter Groups through Churches Together in Kidderminster are contributing knitted flowers as well as crochet ones, fabric and felt ones either sewn or glued together. This has become a real ecumenical, Community project with Scouts and Girlguiding, Age Concern, some Care Homes and schools involved as well as individuals.
Heather Prangley from Holy Innocents' Church in Kiddminster said:
"The display will be environmentally friendly - using up odd bits of wool and fabric. If anyone wishes to be involved please see the Friends of Brinton Park Facebook page for more details and the suggested patterns although all patterns are acceptable. Perhaps you might consider doing something similar in your church or community - it will bring people together to make flowers and hopefully share their memories of previous Jubilee celebrations while making new ones. Good Luck with your plans."
