New Lay Ministers to be licensed

Lay Ministers being licensed by the BishopOn Saturday 9 September, Bishop Martin will license new Licensed Lay Ministers (also known as Readers) for parishes in Worcestershire and Dudley.

Licensed Lay Ministry is distinguished from most other lay ministries in requiring the Bishop’s licence under the canon law of the Church of England, and candidates must complete a more demanding two-year training course.

This year’s candidates have found the last two years both a challenging and exciting time, as they have had their understanding of their faith stimulated and deepened. LLMs are primarily called to be ministers of the Word in pastoral, teaching and mission contexts. They are resources for parishes in thinking about what God’s calling for this community in this place might be. Some of them support traditional church communities, and others are engaged in helping build new worshipping communities.

They will be licensed in Worcester Cathedral on Saturday 9 September at 2:30pm.

With an introduction from Co-Warden of Readers Kath Davis, watch our soon to be licensed Readers talk about their training and how their faith has grown and developed.
