An eco friendly Advent wreath

This week we're filming a series of Advent videos (watch out for them in the run up to Christmas!). For the series, Kate from the Sustainable Church Flowers group has very kindly put together an Advent wreath for us. The wreath has been made without the use of floral foam (aka oasis).

While convenient, floral foam is a single use plastic. It is impossible to recycle. Because it is used with water, it frequently ends up in the water waste stream and quickly breaks down into microplastics which is harmful to aquatic life. It can take centuries to breakdown, adding to the world’s plastic crisis.

In this video, Kate shows how the wreath has been made using locally sourced greenery and moss on a simple metal frame, and gives advice on how to ensure it lasts a month.

Will you make the switch to a more eco friendly wreath this Advent?
