Overbury C of E School continue being great Global Neighbours with Goat Party

Overbury C of E First School's Goat PartyOverbury C of E First School are continuing to learn about global injustice and do what they can to assist our global neighbours, most recently by organising a ‘Goat party’!

Last year Overbury C of E First school were awarded a second silver Global Neighbours award by Christian Aid, who run the accreditation scheme in partnership with the Church of England Education Office. The scheme aims to celebrate global citizenship in schools and empower children to be ‘courageous advocates for justice’

The children in Sundial Class (Year 4/5) planned, organised and led the 'Goat Party'. The aim of the party was to raise money for a virtual nanny goat and a sheep from the Christian Aid Charity gift shop.

The whole school had been invited and they all came in with their donations in the morning and took part in the party in the afternoon.  A group of dedicated Year 5 girls had worked hard to make 84 bookmarks and 84 friendship bracelets so that every child attending the party would receive these as a memento and could wear the bracelet to the party.Overbury C of E First School's Goat Party

At the party, children enjoyed dressing up and visiting the photo booth for silly photos. They played goat themed games including throwing a bean bag into the goat bucket, getting a ping pong ball through the goat maze and ‘pin the horns on the goat’!  There was plenty of music and some dancing giving the afternoon a chilled festival theme. It was a fun and successful afternoon.

Assistant Head Teacher, Miss Charlotte Davies said:

“The children had a wonderful time at the ‘Goat Party’ and have raised enough money to buy their target of a goat and a sheep!”

“Some of the younger children were disappointed that we were not going to get the actual animals in school! The older children had to persuade them that they would better support communities of people living in disadvantage, where the goats will provide milk and manure to grow crops.”

“I continue to be very proud of our children and the wonderful global citizens they are fast becoming.”
