Beer & Ethics in Hanley Castle

Beer & Ethics at St Mary's Church in Hanley Castle is now in its 4th year andonce again the list of topics and individuals is proving to provide a fascinating opportunity for wrestling with ethical and moral issues whichpeople face in their work or community sphere. 

The first debate took place on Monday 26 February and featured Ian Atkinson, a logistician whoresponds to crisis situations across the world and works with various aidOrganisations such as Medicin Sans Frontier . He has worked in Burundi,Chad, Pakistan, Nepal, Sierra Leone, Uganda,and in Syria. He was interviewed by Malvern based Dr David Bryer who was director of Oxfam atthe turn of the Millennium and is a lay canon of Worcester Cathedral.

The Beer and Ethic series is part of the Church's Lent preparation usingreflection on matters that matter.

Monday 5 March:  ethical tourism

  • Neil Copeland,  Travel Counsellor with Prof. JohnRaine, Green Party in the Chair

Monday 12 March: Recycling and Packaging

  • Steven Gogerty: Product developer (plastic &metal) with Chair: the Revd Doug Chaplain

Monday 19 March: Making a Life in the UK

  • Marta Brzychcy:  Polish national who lives and works inthe parish with Chair:  Canon Greville Cross

Monday 26 March: Parenting a disabled child

  • Marjorie Nelson with Chair: Archdeacon of Dudley, Nikki Groarke

Beer and other refreshments are available in St Mary'sHanley Castle after which the participants can extend the conversation tothe Three Kings Inn, next door.

Everyone is most welcome to attend from beyond theparish and the church.
