Next Sunday, 30 September at 4pm, Top Church in Dudley willbe hosting an information evening for anyone who thinks they might like to beinvolved in establishing the new Resourcing Church in the building.The evening will be led by the Revd JamesTreasure who will begin to outline the vision behind a new contemporarycongregation to be established at the church.
Top Church (St Thomas and St Luke) is an iconic building atthe top of Dudley High Street. It was recently awarded 2.5m from the Church ofEngland to become a Resourcing Church. The interior of the church will becompletely re-ordered and the money allows for a number of appointments to bemade to enable the church to better serve the local area.
James said: At the moment, the current congregationaverages around 20 people each Sunday. We are planning to grow this to around250 people over the next five years, so that we can become a real blessing tothe local community as well as help support other Dudley churches. However, Icant do this on my own and Sunday is an opportunity for others in the town tofind out about our plans and get involved.
The Resourcing Church is due to be officially launched inSeptember 2019, once changes have been made to the interior of the building.Over the next year, James will begin to build a congregation who will develop avision for a church which will live out their faith, working with partnerorganisations to meet the needs of the people in Dudley.
This year is the 200th anniversary of thebuilding of Top Church, continued James. We want to make sure its there forat least another 200 years! Weve already had some positive feedback on ourplans our aim is to make the church fit for the 21st Century,while keeping the historical features of the church. Well certainly be takingout the pews so that the space can be more flexibly used throughout the week. Wehope that Top Church will become a brilliant mix of old and new its a greatopportunity to retain the stories of the church at the same time as creatingnew ones!
