The Revd Anthea Elston ready for her walk

The Revd Anthea Elston, part time vicar of All Saints Hollybush, will set out on the journey of a lifetime on Monday. She'll be walking through her own life history to raise funds for the church, currently celebrating its 150th anniversary, and for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Starting from All Saints Hollybush, she will walk 150 miles, visiting the graves of her grandparents and great uncle along the way and passing close by her old school, the church in which she married and the village where she was brought up and where her parents still live. So far, she has raised £2,290 for her good causes, but would love to bring that total up to a round £3,000.

Anthea said of this venture:

It was a mad idea which has somehow become reality. I'm looking forward to the walking, to enjoying the countryside and the peace. I'm not looking forward to the hilly bits, and to seeing how my body copes with walking ten miles a day for 5 days aweek!

Anthea hopes to walk around 10 miles each weekday over the first three weeks in July. She continues:

"Half of the money raised will be given to Macmillan to help with the the brilliant job they do of support not only cancer patients, but also their friends and family and the other half will be put towards installing toilet facilities at All Saints, so that the next 150 years at the little church on the common will be even better than the last!"
