St Helen's Church in Worcester is part of All Saints' parish, one of our two resourcing churches. This week, a major refurbishment project has begun in order to restore the church back to its original layout and to provide an accessible, multifunctional and comfortable space in the very centre of city.
The works will include a new purpose built toilet extension and new single-level sandstone stone floor laid throughout. A new ramp from the south porch will further improve accessibility and the kitchen facilities will be relocated to a smart servery in the space beneath the tower.
Project Manager, Stella Power, said: "These works represent the first significant interior changes since an Aston Webb refurbishment in the 19th century. It feels an incredible privilege for us to be contributing to the legacy of the oldest church in Worcester as we make the building fit for purpose for church and community in the present day."
The building work will be completed by Splitlath Historic Conservation and is being funded by the Church of England's Strategic Development Unit.
