Prison’s Chaplaincy at HMP Long Lartin

The Chaplaincy team at HMP Long Lartin comprises a number ofcore employed staff (Christian and Muslim) as well as a bank of employed andvolunteer staff covering all the main world religions. We all shareone large office in the heart of the jail. We enjoy very good workingrelationships across the team (with true respect, fun and lots of sharing offood!).

Our Christian chaplains (ordained and lay) are Steven,Stephen, Penny and Hugh (Anglican); Lesley (Salvation Army); Jan (Baptist);Garry (RC); Judith and Sarah (Quaker). We are also supported by afaithful team of volunteers who join us for Sunday worship and midweek groups.

HMP Long Lartin is a high-security jail, mostly housing menserving long sentences for serious crimes. Chaplains are well-knownaround the jail and provide pastoral care for inmates and staff of all faithsand none, including bereavement and family support; and faith-specific dutiesincluding one-to-one work, study groups and weekly worship. We alsofulfil certain statutory duties including attending prison committees, anddaily visits to segregated prisoners, new arrivals, and those in the healthcarewing.

Meeting children and young people

22nd January 2026

Bishop Hugh’s first Monday as Bishop of Worcester saw him spending time with two schools. He presented Broadheath CE Primary School and Lower Broadheath Church with a silver Church and School Partnership Award before visiting Wolverley CE Secondary School in Kidderminster where he met with some of the pupils.
