Diocesan Surveyor, Mark Wild, will be leaving the diocesan office at the end of August following a restructure of the parsonages team.
With the number of properties managed by the teams reducing over the past few years, the need for professional surveyor expertise has also reduced. Following Mark’s departure, the team will be led by Ruth Beard who has been promoted to Property Manager and a Property Assistant is currently being recruited to replace Sharon Williams who sadly died from Cancer last year. The skills of a surveyor will be sought as needed, potentially working with our neighbouring dioceses to provide this.
Mark said:
“I have very much enjoyed being the Surveyor for this diocese and the decision of when to leave was always going to be difficult. I arrived here at the age of 46 in 2002 (I'll let you do the sums!) and the time to end full-time employment was rapidly approaching, as much as I did want to accept the fact. In view of this, and the need to restructure the parsonages team, it seemed like a good time for me to accept the offered redundancy and to move onto something new, enabling the DBF to build a parsonages team for the future.
I have always seen the role of Diocesan Surveyor as being part of a team, providing the right houses at the right time and I give thanks now, to and for those team members, both employed here and contracted in, who have made that possible as well as the householders that we have served. We live in a time of great change and that must happen to the Church of England as much as anywhere else. I do not consider myself retired or redundant, but I am grateful now for the opportunity to consider myself self-employed, to go and do things and work as and when I feel called.”
John Preston, Diocesan Secretary, said: “Mark has contributed much to the life and work of the diocesan office over the last 19 years and I would like to thank him for all he has done to support clergy and their families. This restructure will allow us to continue to ensure we provide a good service to those who live in parsonages and keep the housing element of Ministry Share constant as the number of houses declines.”
