Engaging with care homes in Lapal

Curate Mel Beynon explains:

"St Peter’s, part of the Halas Team, has a growing ministry to local older folk. Many of our congregation are elderly and we love and value each of them. There’s a real culture of caring for one another, keeping in touch and visiting those who can’t get to church.

Recently we’ve begun monthly services at Gower Gardens and Lapal House care homes. These have been hugely valued by staff and residents.Mel Beynon stands in front of a group of residents of a local care home to lead worship

One of these is our Wednesday morning Communion service which simply de-camps to Gower Gardens. The residents particularly enjoy the singing and joining in with the familiar prayers of the liturgy.

The Activities' Coordinator at Gower Gardens, Anne Marie, said: “We’re so pleased and excited that you’re coming and doing this. We have many residents who used to go to church who will really appreciate it.”

One resident was so pleased we were going to start coming in that she was worried about missing it, as she mixes up her days at times. I had to promise not to start without her!

It’s so important that we value the wisdom and contribution of the older generation. Many have been faithful to Christ all their lives, and they really appreciate us bringing Church to them.

It’s an absolute joy to bring them the opportunity for worship and Holy Communion."
