Churches throughout the Diocese celebrated the King’s Coronation today, with prayers said in services and community lunches with coronation-themed cakes and family activities.
Worcester Cathedral held a special Evensong service in celebration of King Charles’ Coronation which was attended by the Lord Lieutenant and High Sheriff as well as the Mayor of Worcester, dignitaries from across the County and members of the Armed Forces.
Bishop John preached at the service, reflecting on his experience of attending the service in Westminster Abbey yesterday in his role as Lord High Almoner. He said:
“Running throughout the Coronation was the theme of service and the long rule of Christ over all people and all things. Kings are called to serve after Jesus’ example, which was highlighted in the opening words in the Coronation ceremony. King Charles III is a committed Christian and is very aware of his calling to serve. Yesterday was an amazing celebration of pomp and pageantry, but at its heart was our King dedicating his life to the service of Christ and his people. It’s a demanding role and he deserves our prayers as well as our support.”
