Called to Action: Planting for Pollinators

Published: 16th July 2021

Called to Action logoThis edition of Called to Action, small steps to save our planet, explores what we can do to encourage bees and other pollinators to thrive in our gardens.

In our own gardens, with our churches and communities, by our actions and shopping choices, together we can reverse pollinator decline.

bee on flowerIf you’ve been growing wild flowers in your garden, gather some of the seeds and dry them. Scatter them in other parts of your garden, offer them to neighbours, or give as a home grown present.

Other actions:

  • Choose ‘LOAF’ food (Local, Organic, Animal friendly, Fair Trade). Agriculture is dependent on insect pollinators and can dramatically improve conditions for them.
  • Plant these small native trees from the Woodland Trust in your garden or on church land.(The Woodland Trust provide free saplings for community groups. Please make sure you get permission before adding new trees to church land.)Planting for Honeybees book
  • Plant a ‘meadow’ from a window box to a churchyard. More details
  • This illustrated book makes a lovely present.
  • Find resources on the Climate Sunday website from 2021
