Bishop's Lent Appeal 2022

Published: 28th February 2022

Bishop John’s Lent Appeal for this year will raise money for our partner diocese of Morogoro in Tanzania.

Group of villages in Morogoro

Like many places, the Diocese of Morogoro has been impacted by Covid-19 and in addition the area has suffered from drought and flood which has devastated harvests.

Despite all this, Christian hope is alive and well and in recent months, Bishop Godfrey has planted churches to create a number of new parishes. Many of these are in areas where there is currently very little Christian witness, and it is a real struggle for clergy there to build new congregations. This lent gift will support these mission priests in these challenging parishes.

The diocese is also looking to become self-supporting with the development of an education and conference centre, which will help offer somewhere for people to study and learn. A lack of education is a particular issue within the Diocese and the new centre will help to tackle this.

Any money that is donated will be gifted to the Diocese of Morogoro to use in the best way possible – to help pay stipends, support the new centre and to enable the churches there to help with the Covid-19 vaccine roll out.

Bishop Godfrey said:

Bishop Godfrey“Covid-19, drought and flood have all affected harvests and therefore reduced incomes, but we are not discouraged - God is strengthening our parishioners and clergy. It is with great gratitude that we receive news of this heart-touching appeal for Lent, enabling the parishes of Morogoro and parishes of Worcester to hold hands together.”

Bishop John said:

“I am always hugely grateful to parishes for their generosity to our Lent appeals to both Morogoro and the Diocese of Peru. There is no doubt that the funds we’re able to send make a real difference in both countries. I hope you will once again consider giving as part of your Lenten disciplines this year to enable us to continue to support our friends in Tanzania.”
