Bishop John recently visited Harvington CE First School and joined in with their ‘climate day’ as they tidied the school grounds.
Harvington regained it’s Outstanding Ofsted status in 2023 during what was a very difficult time for the school. Their Headteacher, Helen Fishbourne had been battling cancer and sadly died in April this year.
Bishop John joined the school for collective worship, which was led by the Sunshine Group. All the children said the school prayer together and then Interim Head, Becky Enstone highlighted some facts about climate change and what we can all do to make a difference. There was then a song from Year 2 about the importance of acting now.
The school was blessed by Bishop John who said that the whole diocese was proud of how fantastic the school is!
After Collective Worship, Bishop John was given a tour of the school by two year 5 pupils, Charlotte and Phoebe, who are the Prime Minister and Deputy in the school’s Pupil Parliament. They said: “Our Pupil Parliament is very important – it gives everyone a voice and is a way to ask people for their ideas. Our school also holds lots of fundraising events for Caring Hands and Tanzania and we sponsor a girls in Tanzania. And we have fun at our school discos and summer school fayre.”
After visiting all the different areas of the school, Bishop John joined the Revd Richard Thorniley in helping the children move bark chippings to the natural play area in the school grounds!
