Bishop Hugh visited Cutnall Green CE Primary School on Tuesday where he opened a new playground for the children. During a short ceremony, which included prayers from the children, Bishop Hugh cut the ribbon on the equipment with the help of two pupils.
Two new playground areas had been created for the Early Years children and also those in years 1 – 6. These had been possible thanks to a grant from the Elmley Trust and also the schools PTA. Both included wooden climbing equipment and sheltered dens for outdoor reading.
Cutnall Green Primary is one of three beneficiaries of the Elmley Trust, which was set up in the 1800s by a clergy person to support the school, Elmley Lovett Church and the poor.
Kerry Postans, Director of Education at The Rivers CofE Academy Trust, of which the school is a part, welcomed Bishop Hugh and the other guests. She said:
“We are grateful to the continued support of both the Emley Trust and Cutnall Green’s PTA. Their commitment to enriching the experience of our children is deeply appreciated. This new playground will provide a vibrant space for fun, friendship and growth and will play an important part in the daily lives are our children for many years to come.”
Bishop Hugh talked to the children about different images of God. He said: “When I think about God, I get an image of joy – the joy that you might feel when running around this playground when you don’t have anything else to think about. I hope that you will find something joyful about God whenever you are here using this amazing new equipment.”
After the ribbon was cut, the children had the chance to demonstrate the new equipment!
