£1million received through the Parish Giving Scheme so far this year!

Published: 18th September 2023

Parish Giving Scheme logoThanks to your generosity, churches across the Diocese have already received over a million pounds in regular giving though the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) this year!

We reached this annual milestone in October last year(and in 2021 it was in November), so we are seeing generosity growing across the Diocese and us reaching this point a little earlier each year.

Around 130 parishes are now part of PGS, and it is simple and free for churches to sign up. PGS enables Gift Aid to be collected and paid regularly, and treasurers can access a spreadsheet breaking down their monthly donations, so that they can easily see exactly how much money they have coming in from donors each month. On regular donations the church also receives 100% of both the donation and Gift Aid. On top of this PGS now offers the option of one-off gifts, and since it launched at the beginning of the year we have seen nearly £7000 in one off donations to churches across the diocese.

Over 1000 people give to our churches each month and PGS enables individuals to give to their church regularly by Direct Debit, either monthly, quarterly or annually. The system is designed so that anyone can sign up and begin to donate through PGS: through their website, by filling in a simple paper form, or phoning the PGS team.

The donations made through PGS go directly to our churches and helps them to provide mission and ministry across the diocese. It helps reduce some of the administration time and burdens placed on the treasurer and allows for longer term planning as treasures can predict easier the regular gifts that are made.

“The one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully… God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work.” Corinthians 2 9:6

Stewardship Officer Robyn Rooney commented: “It’s so fantastic to see the generosity across the Diocese, even during this time of financial uncertainty. In 2021 we hit the million-pound mark in November, in 2022 it was October, so for it now to be in September it’s a real testament to the churches who are using PGS and talking about generosity with their congregations. It’s growing year on year, and it has such a positive impact on the churches. I’d like to say a big thank you to all those parishes across the diocese who are now using Parish Giving Scheme to keep track of their donations. I’d encourage others to come and talk to us about the benefits of the scheme so we can work together to get even more people giving to their local church in this way.”
