The crisis we are in can feel overwhelming. We might be wondering where we start, how we can help, what difference we can make? Becoming an eco-church is one easy, practical step.
We are calling on all churches to become an "eco church" to play their part in putting the care of their environment at the forefront of their mission. Lots of churches are already registered and a growing number are getting bronze, silver and even gold awards. We have already met our first target of having 40% of churches in the diocese registered by the end of 2026. We need 30% to have gained an award and we are close to this. The Diocese was awarded a Bronze Eco Diocese Award in 2023. We are working towards a Silver Eco Diocese Award.
Through the free online survey, churches can earn points based on how you care for God's earth. The Eco Church survey consists of five sections:
- Worship and Teaching
- Buildings
- Land
- Lifestyle
- Community and Global Engagement
Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards are given depending on the number of points gained in each section.
If you want to talk with someone about the survey contact your deanery eco church champion or Sue Adeney, the Diocesan Eco Church lead.
