Nicaea 2025

Date and Time :
7th May 2025 - 7:00pm - 9:00pm
Have you ever wondered why we say the Creed nearly every time we worship in church? Where did it come from? What is the significance of the different Creeds (Nicene, Apostles)? Did you know that this has formed the core of faith in the Latin west and the Greek east since 325 CE, 1700 years ago? How did it come to be agreed and what were the issues that it sought to resolve? What does the language of the Creed mean for us in our time? All that is important for us to know about our faith is summarised in curious statements in the Creed. During our 4 sessions we’ll explore the questions raised and ask whether we still need to say the Creed, or whether it’s time for a new one. It’s a compelling story you won’t want to miss; and afterwards you’ll never think of the Creed in the same way again. Canon Roger Spiller has longstanding links with the ecumenical movement and the World Council of Churches and will be leading the study.
