Ministering in a Church with Creeds
Leader: Doug Chaplin, Discipleship and Lay Training Officer
This is especially for ALMs, but is open to anyone. Those who’ve recently completed their specialist ALM training as Pastoral Workers or Worship Leaders are particularly encouraged to attend, but anyone who is interested is welcome.
The Church of England shares two main creeds with the wider Christian Church. The Apostles’ Creed is the basic creed of our common baptism. The Nicene Creed comes out of the resolution of a major disagreement in the early church and has become the fullest shared statement of faith we use regularly at the Eucharist.
These creeds together form the bedrock of our understanding of the Christian faith, and the framework within which we carry out our Christian life, witness and ministry. In this session, we will reflect on how we got the creeds, explore why the Church continues to think doctrine matters, and finish by looking at how the doctrine of God as Holy Trinity and Jesus as fully God and fully human inform our ministry in God’s name.
