DBE: Collective Worship - The Heart of the School
This course is aimed at headteachers, clergy and Collective Worship leads within a school.
Collective Worship should be the beating heart of the school. In this course we will look at ways in which we can see Collective Worship afresh and look at opportunities for ensuring that worship is transported from a 20-minute session to a living expression of the school’s distinctively Christian vision, both inside and outside of the school.
We will look at ways in which we can take worship beyond the gathered meeting and embed it into all that we do in school life. We will also look at how pupils can have a vital role in ensuring Collective Worship is the heartbeat of the school not only through planning, leading and monitoring but as also being ambassadors for Collective Worship in school and beyond. We will aim to:
• consider the question: ‘What is worship?’
• examine the legal framework of worship
• investigate practical ways to create different experiences of worship
• explore ways in which Collective Worship is a whole way of life
• explore the role pupils can have in planning, leading and monitoring Collective Worship
• explore the possibility of Eucharist within schools.
