Bishop Martin will host a special service at St Thomas’ Church in Stourbridge on Sunday 18 October following the devastating wildfires in August. It is hoped that this will be…
It is hoped that this will be a chance for the community to come together to pray for all those affected and to say thank you to the firefighters, emergency services, council workers and local volunteers who did so much to help those in need.
Bishop Martin said:
“I was amongst several hundred evacuated in the face of the fire. Many others lost their home and everything in it. I’m very aware of how much the community has been impacted by what happened and I hope this will be a chance to gather and support one another. It is also an opportunity to give thanks for the many people who have made a difference both at the time of the fires and afterwards. I do hope that people will come along and join us.”
Among those present at the service will be Deputy Lord Lieutenant Nick Venning, the Chief Officer and members of the West Midlands Fire Service and the Mayor of Dudley. It will be led by Bishop Martin and the Revd Andrew Sillis, Vicar of St Thomas’ Church. All are welcome to come along to take part in the simple service. Afterwards, there will be a chance to meet and talk over a cup of tea.
The service will take place on Sunday 18 October at 7pm in St Thomas Church, Market Street, Stourbridge DY8 1AG. Parking is available in High Street, Lower High Street, Market Street and municipal car parks in Church Street, Stourbridge DY8 1EP and Birmingham Street, Stourbridge DY8 1JE.
