Twelve members of the congregation at Christ Church Lye completed – and passed! – a First Aid course in September.

In order to ensure they can minister and care for everyone in church, members of the congregation have been trained to help anyone in need before emergency services arrive.

Delivered by PB Training and the Revd Paul Latham, the First Aid course trained those who use the church most in how to give immediate care. The group learned the Recovery Position, how to treat burns, how to put on slings, how to assist with cuts, assisting those suffering seizures and choking, and of course, CPR (Cadio Pulmonary Resuscitation).

Lots of fun was had alongside the serious aspects of the training, and everyone greatly appreciated the hands-on aspects, especially performing heart massage on the resuscitation dummies.

Among the trainees was vicar Glen Ruffle, who said:

“The training was brilliant, and we all had a lovely day. It was great for team building, but also has a very practical use. The church is a place of healing, spiritual and physical, as we introduce people to Jesus, the ultimate source of healing. This is a great step towards helping us bring more healing to those around us, as well as ensuring we can care for the many groups within our church”.
