Selfie scarecrows at Webheath church

St Philip's Church in Webheath is taking part in a local Scarecrow Trail, which runs from Saturday 24 to Tuesday 27 October.

St Philip’s Church in Webheath is taking part in a local Scarecrow Trail, which runs from Saturday 24 to Tuesday 27 October.

The church’s entry has been made by Catherine Gallagher, the resident artist at St Philip’s. It has been designed for children to get involved with rather than simply look at.

Children are invited to step in and put their heads in the hole to become the scarecrow and then have their photograph taken with it.

Catherine said: “I wanted to create something that the children of Webheath could interact with. I know my own grandchildren would love to have their photographs taken with the scarecrows, so was my motivation.”

The Revd SJ , Vicar of St Philip’s, said:

“Catherine has made something really special. We wanted our scarecrow to be a bit of an adventure for the children who come past. Half term can be a long week for families, so it’s lovely to give people a reason to stop and smile. Everyone’s welcome at St Philip’s, and you don’t need to step inside the church to enjoy it.”

The scarecrow can be found at St Philip’s Church, Church Road, Webheath, throughout the trail. It is free to visit.

Families who enjoy their visit are also welcome back on Saturday 31 October, when Holy Oaks will run its free Hot Chocolate Stand at St Philip’s from 4.30pm.
